One of Cleveland's
newest built-out neighborhoods, the Bellaire Puritas area is located in
the southwest corner of the city. The neighborhood is best characterized
by the stability of its housing market and high percentage of owner occupied
housing. Between 1990 and 2000, housing prices in the area increased 74%.
A new housing subdivision built in 2000, with average per unit prices
approaching $200,000, quickly sold out primarily to local residents. Demand
for upscale housing in a historically blue-collar community indicates
the presence of untapped resources for retailers offering quality products.

Results: 55 percent of residents polled reported that they had lived |

rather livein Bellaire-Puritas than any other nearby community. Local
residents also prefer to shop locally: 79 percent of those polled reported that
they shopped at local stores at least once a week; almost 87 percent reported
that they did most or almost all of their purchases of drug store items at stores
in the neighborhood. When asked where they went when they dined out, 55 percent
reported that they usually went to a neighborhood restaurant. |
